The Texans had decent production from the running back position in 2023 from Devin Singletary, who rushing for 898 yards and four touchdowns.

Although Singletary was above average at times, Houston felt like they needed an upgrade, and they did just that with the addition of Pro Bowl running back Joe Mixon.

General Manager Nick Caserio was aggressive this offseason in acquiring talent at all three levels and Mixon was one of them. Mixon was set to be released by the Cincinnati Bengals, but Caserio sent a late-round draft pick in 2024 to keep the veteran from hitting the open market.

Mixon is still only 27 years old and is fresh off a 2023 season in which he rushed for over 1,000 yards, to go along with nine rushing touchdowns. Mixon also caught 52 passes for 376 yards and three touchdowns without star quarterback Joe Burrow for a good amount of the year.

A majority of running backs hit an extreme drop off in production due to the nature of the position, but Mixon is not at that point yet and will still be able to produce at a high level in offensive coordinator Bobby Slowik’s offense.

PRODUCTION PREDICITON: 1,100 YARDS RUSHING, 350 YARDS RECEIVING / 10 TOTAL TOUCHDOWNS

Not only does Mixon help tremendously in the rushing attack, he is also a receiving threat that the Texans will surely utilize moving forward. With how great the Texans passing game will likely be, that will lead to Mixon having much more favorable matchups that he could take advantage of on a consistent basis.

Adding a durable player like Mixon to the Texans offense was a great move by Caserio and the Texans front office. This move will surely take some pressure off sophomore quarterback CJ Stroud, which is something the Texans have made an emphasis this offseason.
