2023 1st-round pick entering big season

Robbed of an offseason as a rookie, Tyree Wilson was laser focused on every aspect of being an NFL Player this offseason and he hopes it helps him take the next step in his career after am unbalanced rookie season after being the No. 7 overall draft pick in 2023.

Wilson spent a lot of time and focus this offseason and working on his body as much as his field work. His inspiration for getting his body right prior to the season was Raiders’ star pass-rusher Maxx Crosby, who been a major mentor to Wilson.

“I feel like it starts off the field. You’ve got to have good weight, good eating habits, sleeping habits to be the best on the field,” Wilson told reporters during the recent OTA sessions. “I learned that from a leader in the room, Maxx Crosby. So, I tried to work with him all offseason to improve my game on the field … He just pushed me to be better. He’d always asked me like, ‘What are you eating? Who’s your nutritionist? How are you stretching?’ Just stuff that just makes me better, like he does.”

Wilson is looking to improve from last season in which he had 3.5 sacks. Wilson struggled in several games, but also flashed some. He did well when he was moved inside to defensive tackle and will likely do that in certain alignments moving forward.

Wilson was challenged last season as he missed the entire offseason due to a foot injury he suffered at Texas Tech the previous fall. He is now healthy and feeling he benefit of having a full NFL offseason.

“It’s a big difference. You can come in not thinking about the injury you got,” Wilson said. “You can just focus on ball and your technique so you can get better every time you come on the field … I was definitely playing catch up (in 2023).”

Crosby has credited Wilson this offseason for being receptive his mentorship and listening and executing the advice he was given. Wilson is appreciate he received that opportunity.

“Coming in from college you think you’ve got everything figured out, but this year I just slowed back down, started taking the coaching and just come out here and work,” Wilson said, “You gain respect by the actions that you put in, and it just really helped me take more steps up this year.”

He and the franchise hopes that is exactly the case this season after his productive offseason.
