Ronda Rousey and The Rock could soon become a WWE dream team

For fight fans, there’s one big event on the horizon: Ronda Rousey’s upcoming debut in the WWE. And there’s a chance she could be joined by none other than The Rock.

Rousey was MMA’s Supergirl — a tough, entertaining, and devastatingly effective fighter who shot to the top of the sport and then flamed out in big-time losses to Holly Holm and Amanda Nunes. While she hasn’t stepped in a ring for years, her talent as an entertainer has taken her to the WWE, and there’s no one we’d like to see more in the squared circle with her than the big man himself, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson.

According to Sports Illustrated, the general plan is for Rousey to make her debut in a mixed tag-team bout against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon at Wrestlemania 34 in New Orleans on April 8. But the question of who she’ll be teaming up with is still in the air, subject to performers’ availability and the intricate plot details of professional wrestling’s carefully-orchestrated show.

Citing sources close to the wrestling company, SI reports that WWE administrators have a few picks in mind for Rousey’s partner — but their number one choice is The Rock.

Johnson has become a major household name since his wrestling days, but he’s never forgotten his roots, and he regularly makes appearances at WWE events.

Rousey and Johnson have even worked together before, as the fighter played a bit part in Furious 7.

As for whether The Rock will be able to participate, the biggest obstacle could be his movie contracts, which reportedly prohibit him from doing stuff that might get him injured — like smashing faces in a cage with Ronda Rousey, for instance.

If the Rock can’t make it, SI‘s sources say WWE is eyeing Kurt Angle, Shane McMahon, or Seth Rollins as a partner for Rousey.

We’re keeping our fingers crossed for The Rock. If WWE pulls it off, seeing two titans in the ring together would be more epic than The Rock’s gravity-defying Skyscraperstunt. And if that doesn’t work out, we’ll hold out hope that Rousey’s next career pivot will be to The Rock’s upcoming fitness reality series, which sounds absolutely bananas.
