Speculating on the rumors surrounding pro wrestling is a favored pastime of many fans, perhaps second only to actually watching the matches. In this daily column, we take a look at the latest rumors being churned out by the pro wrestling rumor mill.

Important reminder: Rumors are just that — rumors. None of this has been confirmed as fact, it’s just circulating around the pro wrestling rumor mill. We track rumor accuracy in a weekly feature called Rumor Look Back you can find here. Remember, take it all with a grain of salt.

Rumors for the Day:

  • Warner Bros Discovery sources “stressed” to SI.com’s Justin Barrasso that they were not concerned with “one low rating” and believe this week’s Dynamite “will jump considerably… especially with the Big Bang Theory returning to its familiar spot as the lead-in.”
  • Early odds from BetOnline for Money in the Bank have Damian Priest and Sami Zayn as slight favorites to retain their titles.
  • In Forbidden Door’s title matches, BetOnline’s odds favor Swerve Strickland and Toni Storm retaining. Mercedes Moné is a big favorite in her title for title match, and Tetsuya Naito a slight one over IWGP champ Jon Moxley.
  • Regarding speculation that Hangman Page will be The Elite’s Wild Card in AEW’s Owen Hart Tournament, Fightful Select couldn’t confirm it’s Page but says he was out for personal reasons and always expected back in late June or early July. Hangman was discussed for the tournament at one point, and is expected to still be a heel when he returns.
  • Fightful also says former WWE tag team Mace & Mansoor have been in talks with AEW, with company sources saying its for appearances in Ring of Honor.
  • WWE recently filed trademarks on the terms “WWE Independent Development” and “WWE ID”. The applications indicate they’ll be used for training programs, and/or content about them.
  • On his YouTube channel, former WWE personality Matt Camp said WWE had talks with the White House during the COVID pandemic about having Dr. Anthony Fauci appear on The Bump to discuss “vaccine awareness”. The idea got as far as Vince McMahon, who was initially on board before deciding it was too political an issue.
