Even though Cain Velasquez hasn’t signed with WWE, they’re already paving the way in their stories for his arrival. Brock Lesnar attacked Rey Mysterio and his son at the beginning of RAW last night. Speculation is that this is leading to someone stepping up on behalf of Mysterio, and that person would be Cain Velasquez.

The idea is that Lesnar is beating down the top Mexican superstar, so Velasquez would step up as the Mexican hero. That’s the path that is being laid out, but nothing is set in stone because Velasquez is being made offers from AAA and AEW as well. The story is being left open-ended in case Velasquez doesn’t sign a contract with WWE.

We reported yesterday in how the WWE is interested in doing a Brock Lesnar vs. Cain Velasquez program. They’re wanting to present him as a real rival to Lesnar throughout the feud and won’t be highlighting his current luchador style. Velasquez defeated Lesnar in 2010 to win the UFC Heavyweight title.
