The first member of AEW’s Blood and Guts team got jumped by The Elite

The Elite announced Blood & Guts last month, booking themselves in AEW’s version of War Games against “AEW’s Best” to prove their Anarchy in the Arena win at Double or Nothing wasn’t a fluke. The Young Bucks, Kazuchika Okada & Jack Perry tried to recruit World champion Swerve Strickland to be the fifth member of their team, but were rebuffed. Then we didn’t hear much about the match as everyone’s attention turned to Forbidden Door.

Now that the company’s annual PPV with New Japan Pro-Wrestling is in the rearview, the build to Blood & Guts is back on. Days after coming up short (literally and figuratively) in his attempt to take out Perry and win the TNT title, Mark Briscoe became the first member of Team AEW on the July 3 Dynamite. That’s as far as he got before the Scapegoat slid up behind him and blasted him with his new belt.

Kyle O’Reilly came to the rescue, then Okada laid him out with a Rainmaker. Matthew & Nicholas Jackson rolled up to deliver an EVP Trigger to Briscoe before The Acclaimed & Daddy Ass finally chased off The Elite. They couldn’t stop DJ Kazuchika from mocking them from the stands though…

Not the best start for “AEW’s Best”. Much as I love the Ring of Honor World champ, Mark’s gonna need some help living up to that team name, too… and I’m not sure his Conglomeration teammate Kool Kyle and Max Caster & Anthony Bowens (I’m assuming 60 year old Billy Gunn won’t enter Blood & Guts) provide enough star power.

Meanwhile, The Elite are still a man short for July 24 after Hangman Page told them to go screw last night.
