Starting things out, we’ve got a Pickaxe which was actually free, the Investigator. This isn’t quite the rarest Pickaxe in Fortnite but it’s up there. This pickaxe was free from a promotion, it came from a Twitch Prime promo that allowed players to earn it for free.

Most free cosmetics get collected pretty widely, so why is this one rare? It was quite an early promo. The promotion happened in 2018, so the Fortnite player base was a lot smaller back then. It can never be collected again, so if you missed out it’s gone for good.

4. Pointer

There are a couple of inclusions in the rarest pickaxe in Fortnite which hail from Fortnite China. Since that game is unavailable, there’s no way to get this pickaxe anymore.

Pointer isn’t exactly the most exciting pickaxe. It’s not tied to a skin or anything. It’s just a generic harvesting tool with a pointer on it! You can’t unlock it anymore so it’s a pretty rare item.

3. Raider’s Revenge

The next item in the rarest pickaxe in Fortnite might be recognizable for those who track the rarest skins. It’s the pickaxe that went along with Renegade Raider, a Season 1 Chapter 1 skin that’s often held up as the rarest and one of the best Fortnite skins. This pickaxe was available during the game’s first season, and then never again.

This pickaxe was unlockable from getting to level 35 in that very first pass. Not only did you have to be playing from the launch of Fortnite, but you had to care enough to grind out the first season too. Renegade Raider’s pickaxe is still one of the rarest and most sought after pickaxes.

2. Power Grip

In the second place, it’s Power Grip. This one is an extremely rare Fortnite pickaxe right now, but at one point it was very accessible. At least in one region. It’s a Pickaxe that was included in Fortnite China, a game that no longer exists.

This pickaxe was limited to the separate Chinese version of the game. Which if you’re unaware, is now deleted. Back when it was accessible it was a totally free-to-play game, no microtransactions, and V-Bucks came from quests. Although, there were time limits on how long you could even play. Power Grip is no longer accessible since the Chinese version of the game is gone too.

1. FNCS Axe of Champions

This one is a bit of a unique case. The FNCS Axe of Champions is definitely the rarest pickaxe in Fortnite. Only one team in the game has it any time per region.

The rarest pickaxe in Fortnite is probably this harvesting tool. How can you get it? You have to win the biggest event in Fortnite esports.

This particular pickaxe is only given out to the winners of the FNCS. You’ll have it in your locker after winning, but only until the next FNCS when it moves on to the next winner. Being this limited means it’s totally out of reach for the majority of players.

Those are the five rarest. Over time though, older pickaxes are only going to get rarer and rarer. Even if you started playing in Chapter 2 or 3, you likely have a good number of pickaxes that newer players can never get their hands on! It’ll be interesting to see how this list changes in the future.
