Triple H hosted a media call earlier today to promote Saturday’s NXT Takeover: Toronto 2019 event. Listen to the full call in the player above. Below are highlights:
– He was asked about WWE hiring Paul Heyman and Eric Bischoff as Executive Directors, and if he was interested in either position. He said it’s important to look at what they are doing, and said the jobs are show-specific. He can’t be at every show because of his schedule, and his plate is full, especially for a consuming job like these. He said Vince McMahon tries to add hours to days but there’s only so much time. He also said he’s really excited to work with Heyman and Bischoff, and already sees changes in the hires.
– He was asked about Drew McIntyre wanting to appear on NXT UK. He said talents are always asking him about appearing for that brand. He also said the NXT UK brand is white hot and is looking forward to the Takeover: Cardiff event on August 31st.
– He was asked what match will steal the show on Saturday night and he said basically everything can steal the show. He commented on how they have had great storylines for all the matches, and they all should deliver.
– He said “sure, why not?” when asked about a possible Horsewomen vs. Horsewomen feud in WWE and said he’d like to see it, when the time is right.
– He was asked about possibly taking over RAW and SmackDown after Vince steps down. He said we’d have to ask Vince about future plans and any kind of succession plans, but there is no heir apparent. There are succession plans but they change all the time. He said Vince isn’t stepping away any time soon and joked that Vince will probably out-live everyone else.
– They are working on plans for the 2019 Mae Young Classic tournament. He said timing is an important factor because of the Fox deal starting soon. The Fox deal changes everything about SmackDown and also affects RAW, and it’s caused them to push several things back this year. They will be making announcements soon.
– When asked about Johnny Gargano’s status, he said Gargano is fine. He wouldn’t get into medical details he can’t talk about but Gargano has been dealing with something that wasn’t a big deal or anything serious, but it could have been serious if they didn’t give him some time away from the ring to heal. Gargano is fine now and ready to face NXT Champion Adam Cole on Saturday.
– Like EVOLVE, he expects there to be more special events from other promotions they work with on the WWE Network. He enjoyed the recent EVOLVE Anniversary special on the WWE Network and thought it was great. He also thinks EVOLVE offers a great platform to younger wrestlers.
– He mentioned the NXT – FS1 rumors and people talking about WWE airing counter-programming, referring to the NXT vs. AEW TNT rumors. He said NXT has been on Wednesday nights for a long time and when someone else announces a show on Wednesdays, it’s not called counter-programming, but it is when WWE does the same. He talked about how WWE does their own thing and doesn’t worry about the others.
– He was asked about The Rock’s daughter Simone training at the WWE Performance Center, and said she shares her family’s passion for the pro wrestling business. He also said she shares a strong work ethic with her dad. He said if she wants a career, nothing will stop her, just like her dad. He was asked about Sami Zayn recently mentioning Rock being at the PC, and said Rock sometimes visits Simone t.here. He said Rock is proud of Simone.
– He said a women’s WarGames match for NXT is possible, everything is possible.
