Two former world champions qualify for main event at TNA Slammiversary

on

The main event is set for Slammiversary, but the participants still need to be determined. Moose will defend the TNA World Championship in a six-way match. Josh Alexander qualified last week. This week, the Road to Slammiversary continued with two more qualifying matches on Impact (June 27, 2024).

The field was stacked with quality for this pair of bouts. First up was Sami Callihan versus Steve Maclin. Both men are former world champions in TNA.

Down the stretch, Callihan executed an avalanche Death Valley Driver followed by a cactus piledriver. Maclin kicked out on the cover. The action spilled onto the apron, and Callihan clotheslined Maclin back into the ring. The Death Machine hyped up the crowd with his ‘thumbs up’ taunt, which turned out to be a key mistake. Maclin regained his wits enough to deliver a knee to the head as Callihan tried re-entering the ring. Mr. Mayhem struck with a KIA double underhook DDT through the ropes for victory.

The Impact main event of the evening went to Nic Nemeth versus Rich Swann. Nemeth held the WWE World Heavyweight Championship twice, and he is the current AAA mega champion. Swann is a former world champion in TNA.

AJ Francis and DJ Whoo Kid trifled with interference until the referee caught Top Dolla creeping. An ejection was in order, and the match resumed as a fair fight.

In the end, Nemeth and Swann engaged in furious fisticuffs. Nemeth surprised his opponent for a jumping DDT. Swann bounced off his head onto his feet, but he was a dead man walking in zombie mode. Nemeth finished the job with the Danger Zone maneuver.

Four of the six slots of now filled for the TNA World Championship match at Slammiversary on July 20. The remaining spots will be determined next week with Frankie Kazarian versus Mike Santana and Joe Hendry versus Jake Something.
