WWE 2K20 received its first of many, many patches this week. The important fixes listed were clipping, freezing, and hair physics. WWE Games co-president referred to the game reviews as “mixed.” The reviews were certainly not mixed. The professional reviews were overwhelmingly negative with IGN going as far as rating it a 2 out 10. User scores were even worse with Metacritic giving it a .9 out of 10.

The patch did fix some things, but it also created brand new bugs. While playing this morning, my female created superstar won the Women’s championship. As a result, the game gave her the Women’s championship and the Intercontinental championship. A quick search around the web shows this is a common issue. One previous bug had Luke Harper’s theme music repeating at an incredibly loud volume, and they fixed this bug by removing the theme song entirely and using his Bludgeon Brother’s theme song instead. Not a bug, but not a fix.

As far as clipping goes, there’s little-to-no difference. Championship belts still move through bodies. Bodies still move through objects, disappear under the ring, and even float on invisible platforms. Everyone still duck walks.

Create-a-Wrestler is still a big problem. Prior to the update, having any text on your edited wrestler would cause the game to freeze up. They managed to fix that, but now moving text and logos are a real pain. Creating a wrestler is such a hassle that one of the top CAW contributors, Defract, is refusing to create anything for WWE 2K20.

All in all, the game still has a long way to go with more patches before gamers will be satisfied. The amount of issues the first patch fixed is misleading. They specified that they fixed hair texture, which is technically true because they fixed Bianca Belair’s, but that’s about it. Certain hairstyles still have a mind of their own. My Career is still a nearly-unplayable mess. At this point, the game is not worth the current price. WWE 2K20 is still a full priced game that doesn’t function as a full-priced AAA game should.
