The next pay-per-view (PPV) on the WWE schedule is the Royal Rumble event set to take place on Sun., Jan. 29, 2017, at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas, the company’s annual beginning of the year showcase featuring its most popular gimmick match. It will crown the next number one contender to either the Raw (Universal) or SmackDown Live (World) championship.
We’re just one week away from the gates opening in the Lone Star State, and the card is basically set.
– Royal Rumble
The annual 30-man over-the-top-rope battle royal will headline the show, with 18 of the 30 announced so far. They are: Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, Goldberg, Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston, Big E, Braun Strowman, Chris Jericho, Baron Corbin, Dean Ambrose, The Miz, Dolph Ziggler, Seth Rollins, Bray Wyatt, Randy Orton, Luke Harper, Cesaro, Sheamus.
– Kevin Owens vs. Roman Reigns (Universal championship)
Tensions are even higher for this now that KO and Chris Jericho beat Reigns for his United States title, but at Royal Rumble, Owens will have to go it alone because Jericho will be suspended above the ring in a shark cage.
– AJ Styles vs. John Cena (WWE world championship)
When Cena made his big return to SmackDown Live he immediately booked himself into a title match at this show because, quite literally, he’s John Cena and he can do that. The contract is signed, and Cena’s in the process of making example out of Superstars like Baron Corbin to remind the Phenomenal One what he’s up against.
– Charlotte Flair vs. Bayley
Thanks to an assist from Sasha Banks, Bayley earned this shot with a win over Nia Jax on Raw on Jan. 2. Nia’s joined forces with Charlotte — at least for now — and is looking to make the Hugster’s life miserable between now and Jan. 29. She’s even using poetry to do it!
– Neville vs. Rich Swann
The self-proclaimed King of the Cruiserweights has beaten everyone he’s faced since returning at Roadblock: End of the Line, including the current champ. The Outlandish One has had enough, however, and accepted a challenge from Neville on 205 Live just last week.
