– WWE has come to terms on a deal to acquire the rights & trademarks for the legendary War Games match from up & coming indie promotion Major League Wrestling, according to PWInsider. MLW first used the War Games gimmick back in 2003, then they filed to trademark the name when they re-launched in 2007. MLW had plans to use the match once a year as a major gimmick event, as they did in the fall of 2018. WWE discovered MLW’s trademark in 2017 when they brought back War Games for the WWE NXT brand, leading to WWE filing for a number of WCW-related trademarks. With WWE using the match for NXT again in 2018, officials reportedly reached out to MLW and worked out a deal. WWE acquired the name a few months back and as part of the new deal, MLW will not use the concept or the name going forward.
